Red Pill Marketer vs Blue Pill Marketer

Red Pill vs Blue Pill

As Neo sat at his computer late one night, he began to hear rumours circulating among the online community about a mysterious world known as the Matrix.

In this strange new realm, it was said that humans had been enslaved by an external force and led to believe that their lives were nothing more than an illusion. Intrigued by these rumours, Neo resolved to discover the truth behind the Matrix for himself.

After spending many hours digging through forums and discussions online, Neo finally stumbled upon a mysterious hacker named Trinity. She introduced him to Morpheus, the leader of a small group of rebel hackers dedicated to exposing the truth about the Matrix.

Morpheus explained to Neo that in order to truly understand the Matrix and its purpose, he would have to make a choice – one that would determine his fate forever.

Morpheus from the Matrix. offers Neo, the red pill to discover the truth or the blue pill to remain in blissful ignorance. Explains the red pill marketer vs blue pill marketer theory

Morpheus: I imagine that right now you’re feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole?

Neo: You could say that.

Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he’s expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?

Neo: No.

Morpheus: Why not?

Neo: ‘Cause I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my life.

Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind — driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Neo: The Matrix?

Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?

(Neo nods his head.)

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church or when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind. (long pause, sighs) Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.

(In his left hand, Morpheus shows a blue pill.)

Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. (a red pill is shown in his other hand) You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause; Neo begins to reach for the red pill) Remember — all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.

(Neo takes the red pill and swallows it with a glass of water)

When Morpheus offers the choice between a red pill and a blue pill to the main character Neo in The Matrix, he is offering him the chance to break free from the control of the machine-generated dream world and escape into the real world.

The Red Pill represents an uncertain future – one that is unknown to Neo at the time – but it is also a path that will set him free from the enslaving hold of this alternate reality. Ultimately, Neo knows that he must take the Red Pill, despite its risks and unknowns, in order to gain true freedom and explore all that life has to offer. After all, as Morpheus says, “You stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” In other words, taking the Red Pill signals a willingness to challenge conventional wisdom and explore all possible possibilities – even those that may be unfamiliar or uncomfortable. And ultimately, this bold choice is what makes us human. So if you’re faced with a similar choice – between security and uncertainty, between what we know and what we don’t know – remember that taking Red takes courage, but it also opens up exciting new paths for growth and discovery. Go on – take the Red Pill, and see just how deep this rabbit hole

Lets Go Deeper Into The Matrix

When Morpheus first offers Neo the choice between a red pill and a blue pill, he presents it as an impossible choice. On the one hand, there is the familiar but imperfect world of illusion, represented by the blue pill. On the other, there is the uncertain and intimidating world of truth and reality, represented by the red pill. Despite his reluctance to take either option, Neo ultimately chooses to take the red pill and embark on a journey into uncharted territory.

The decision to take the red pill reveals an inherent curiosity and desire for knowledge in Neo, even in the face of uncertainty or danger. The choice resonates deeply with modern society, which is constantly bombarded with information and conflicting opinions.

Like Neo, we are often faced with difficult decisions that have far-reaching consequences; but like him, we must be willing to choose our own destiny rather than passively accepting whatever path is chosen for us. Even if it means facing daunting obstacles or sacrificing what we thought we knew, choosing to take that first step toward unexplored possibilities can help lead us toward our greatest potential.

So perhaps Morpheus was right all along – maybe in finding out how deep that rabbit hole really goes lies our greatest achievement of all.

What is the connection between the Matrix and Digital Marketing?

Although it may seem totally unrelated, the internet is like the matrix. If you’re still reading, you’ve undoubtedly got access to the internet, which means you’re hooked up to our 21st century incarnation of the Matrix, a system that has taken the place of our traditional sources of … what have you: shopping, news, entertainment, chatting, and knowledge!

You get the idea, the internet is much at the very heart of our daily lives so much so that in the next wave of the internet, web 3.0, people will probably live in the internet!

It is the same in the business world now, and Covid-19 accelerated the adoption of the internet as an important and strategic tool to market your business.

Contemplate how intimidating it must be to stay up to speed on internet marketing techniques, whether you’re working for a large company or are self-employed. Google, Facebook, and other platforms change their algorithms frequently, leaving marketers with little choice but to adjust or play catch-up.

Now, you aren’t limited to those three marketing options, which are largely secondary anyway. Online, you have to market your product via Facebook. And Twitter. And Instagram. And Snapchat. And Pinterest. And LinkedIn. And Amazon. And Goodreads. And on and on and on. Each of these platforms has different rules, different systems to learn and different ways of maximizing page views. So much so that many marketers and influencers, have become slaves to the Google, Facebook and Tiktok algorithms!

Now, If a business is not on the internet it’s like it doesn’t exist at all!

And yet there are still marketers, who are yet to fully embrace the internet and the opportunities it brings to businesses. When it comes to what digital marketing can do for the business, the majority of marketers choose to be in a state of blissful ignorance. Like the blue pill in The Matrix, these marketers are content to stay within the confines of their comfort zone, happy to stick with what they know and ignore the potential of what they don’t.

On the other hand, there is a small but growing group of marketers who are willing to accept the challenge of learning new skills and keeping up with the constantly evolving landscape of digital marketing. These marketers, like Neo in The Matrix, are taking the red pill.

The choice between the blue pill marketing and the red pill marketing is ultimately a choice between complacency and growth. Staying within your comfort zone may feel safe, but it also means missing out on opportunities for progress and advancement. Embracing change and learning new skills, on the other hand, can be daunting, but it’s also essential for success in today’s digital world.

What is a Blue Pill Marketer (BPM)?

An image of a person happily smiling while eyes are covered representing the blissful ignorance of blue pill marketers.

A blue pill marketer is a marketer who would rather live in blissful ignorance about their digital marketing performance.

Below are their characteristics.

“We have to keep up with the Joneses to remain competitive”

They do digital marketing to keep up with the joneses. These are the marketers and businesses fixated more with their competition than customers, so much so, their digital marketing strategy is a copy and paste of their competitors. If competitor X has a Facebook business page, they too will get one. If their competitor goes on TikTok, they too will join TikTok – the fact that they have been able to match and copy their competitors puts them in a state of ignorance bliss.

The endless copying and pasting of other businesses is what makes this company’s digital marketing strategy so lacklustre. It seems as if they are more focused on matching their competitors than providing customers with good service, because every time someone new swoops into town our competitors will quickly adopt them too!

The digital marketing world is a cut-throat industry, where businesses fight for clicks and impressions. However, there is one thing that these companies have in common: they’re all fixated on their competition more than customers–to such an extent where even the design of each individual campaign was borrowed from another competitor!

“Our mere presence on the Internet qualifies as Digital Marketing”

Mere participation is more satisfying than actually doing digital marketing for Blue Pill marketers. So long they have hired a digital marketing manager or a social media manager or a digital marketing agency, then, once again, they go into a state of blissful ignorance. Everything is fine in the digital marketing fantasy land!

“Content is King, so let’s just create more Content and the traffic will come!”

Blue Pill marketers take this adage as the literal gospel.

Just create content and they will come.

Just build a website and traffic will come.

Just create a mobile app and the downloads will come.

Just open a new social media profile and the fans will come.

Blue Pill marketers expect content to magically bring in the traffic, how and why, they couldn’t care less.

“The internet loves us, look at all the likes and views we are getting”

Blue Pill Marketers strive to enter that state of blissful marketing ignorance (BMI). and they are easily satisfied with digital marketing vanity metrics like views, likes, because they gloss over the real problems with their digital marketing performance.

Vanity metrics are metrics that make you look good to others but do not help you understand your own performance in a way that informs future strategies. Vanity metrics can be fickle, misleading, and appealing for all the wrong reasons. These metrics are exciting to point to if you want to appear to be improving, but they often aren’t actionable and aren’t related to anything you can control or repeat in a meaningful way. he reason vanity metrics are so decried is that they’re overly simplistic to measure, they skip nuance and context, they are often misleading, and they don’t really help you improve in any meaningful way.

“We love new shiny new objects”

Blue Pill Marketers love shiny new digital marketing objects.

Blue Pill Marketers are like magpies when it comes to digital marketing. Blue pill marketers excitedly collect every new digital marketing software tool and try out every new Digital marketing hack or tactic as soon as they hear about it.

Blue Pill Marketers constantly are chasing new ideas and being distracted by the latest strategy, they are always hopping around from one method to another and never really focusing on your core content marketing strategy.

“We just have to pay to play!”

Blue Pill Marketers are happy to pay for internet traffic without exploring inbound marketing including SEO

“Pay to play,” refers to businesses relying more heavily on paying for Facebook Ads, Search Ads. Sponsored/Promoted Posts, and other paid media to get their content in front of their audiences.

Blue Pill Marketers are slaves to Digital advertising platforms and software. They are slaves to the internet as a whole!

Wherever they smell some internet traffic, they run to with their wallets wide open!

They’re not debating whether it’s worth paying for traffic (clicks, views) any longer.

Most social networks have closed off free traffic sources, and the majority of blue-pill marketers are glad to comply and pay to play.

“We have to keep up with the algorithms!”

The blue pill marketers are sleepless at night, dreading the next Google search algorithm update or the Facebook algorithm change, or even the TikTok algorithm update! Many blue pill marketers have become slaves to algorithms like as in the matrix, where some people had been enslaved by technology.

Blue Pill marketers, whether doing SEO or PPC, have become enslaved to algorithms.

Every move they make in digital marketing is directed at pleasing the algorithms! Every digital marketing strategy is geared towards winning over the algorithms.

Red Pill Marketers (RPM)

Red Pill Marketers want to break free from the blue pill thinking – that somehow, digital marketing should be left to the big digital advertising platforms and digital marketing agencies.

As I have said earlier, my missing is to not let your lack of knowledge about digital marketing get in the way of great ideas/businesses/products/services.

I invite you to stay in the digital marketing Wonderland and I will show you how deep the internet rabbit-hole goes!
